Winery & Vintage Info

Bruno prioritises mechanical tillage including ploughing and earthing up. A well-aerated soil is highly conducive to the vine’s development as it draws its energy and personality from the soils. Organic culture methods are in place to protect the vineyards and control yields as part of the domaine’s Quality measures. The 4 Seasons dictate procedures in the vineyard including pruning, disbudding, lifting and stripping depending on the year… as well as climatic conditions which are key to defining the character of the wines.

Yet Bruno never forgets the importance of working with what nature gives us. As they say, ”The years go by but each one is different”, and this is what makes Burgundy’s single variety wines so unique.

2019 is a unique year; it brought its share of stress with the frost and the hot and dry summer, resulting however in a high-quality wine that will please even the greatest of Burgundy wine enthusiasts

The start of a spring year: Winter was rather mild with above-average temperatures and variable rainfall – the growth cycle started quite early on with bud-burst a little ahead of time in certain plots.

An autumnal spring: The mild temperature in March enabled the vines to develop but cold weather followed shortly after. The frost of the morning of 5 April caused rather pronounced damage in certain plots, with the temperature staying low and bringing with it a second round of frost between 12 and 15 April, but causing much less damage this time around. During the month of May the vines grew well but strong and cool gusts of wind induced coulure and millerandage.

A warm summer: Hot and dry weather set in, with the vines remaining in excellent condition until the harvest. The slight rainfall in August helped with vine growth and the ripening of the grapes. The end of August and beginning of September stayed fine and the grape ripened at a steady pace. Harvest started with the whites on 11 September and ended with the reds on 18 September.

Fermentation started easily and ended peacefully for all of the cuvées. The white wines are frank, with great aromatic purity and remarkable balance: the minerality and liveliness support the richness in the mouth.

2019 is a promising and finely balanced vintage
